2007 Oakland Raiders Football 101
| ALTA BATES SUMMIT MEDICAL CENTER & THE OAKLAND RAIDERS TEAM UP TO SCORE "A TOUCHDOWN FOR BREAST CANCER" AT FOOTBALL 101! |
The Oakland Raiders and Alta Bates Summit Medical Center hosted the 10th annual Football 101 event at the Raiders’ training facility in Alameda on Tuesday, October 30th. It was another exciting and successful evening; over $25,000 was raised and will benefit breast cancer screenings for low-income women in the community through Alta Bates Summit’s Markstein Cancer Education and Prevention Center and Comprehensive Cancer Center.
This year’s event was led off by Renel - host of the “Renel in the Morning” show on 98.1 KISS FM, and in-game announcer for the San Francisco Giants - chanting to the crowd “Raaaiiidddeeerrrsss!” Many of the 100 participants in attendance asked questions of the Raiders coaching staff, including Head Coach Lane Kiffin, Defensive Coordinator Rob Ryan, Hall of Famer and Assistant Coach Willie Brown and Linebackers Coach Don Martindale. “It was very unexpected and cool to have a lot of the coaches here,” said a surprised Renel. Raiders players Johnnie Lee Higgins and Ronald Curry, wide receivers, linebacker Thomas Howard and strong safety Jarrod Cooper also joined the event, leading discussions about football, signing autographs and posing for photos with the guests.
A raffle of autographed Raiders memorabilia was held and the winners were: Di Johnson, Kelly Adams and Ismaela Muniz.
Alta Bates Summit Medical Center and the Raiders have enjoyed an immensely successful partnership over the last ten years in the fight against breast cancer. A check for the proceeds from this year’s event was presented to the Medical Center on the field just before the November 4th game between the Raiders and the Houston Texans.
