A Taste of the East Bay Debuts

A Taste of the East Bay is coming to the fabled Berkeley City Club on Friday, March 20, 2009, 6 p.m., so prepare to please your palate and put on your dancing shoes. It’s a delicious opportunity to sample international cuisine that showcases signature dishes of the area’s leading restaurants — from Bay Wolfe in Oakland and Bucci’s in Emeryville to Havana and 1515 in Walnut Creek. There will be dancing to the sounds of the Golden Oldies and a silent auction, too.

Proceeds from this new special event will benefit Thunder Road, Alta Bates Summit’s renowned substance abuse recovery program for teens. Specifically, the dollars raised throughout the evening will go toward scholarship support, which enables teens to continue their treatment at Thunder Road after other funding streams are exhausted.

“Foundation fundraising is why Thunder Road is still in existence,” says Charles Mance, a longtime member of the Thunder Road Development Council. “There’s a tremendous commitment to make a real difference in the lives of those kids.”
